A Haunting Exploration of Freedom and Control

The much-awaited Polish independent feature Glorious Summer is set to release on March 8, 2025, in SXSW’s Global sidebar. It is an experimental drama film written and directed by Helena Ganjalyan and Bartosz Szpak. The movie is a powerful entry at the festival, shedding light on the topics of imprisonment, independence, and rebellion.

A Story of Silent Resistance

Located in a luxurious Renaissance palace, Glorious Summer follows the lives of three women whose every bodily whim is indulged—except for the privilege of departure. As they experience their gilded cage, they develop a particular “touch language” in an attempt to convey what can’t be spoken. As they seek an exit, they surreptitiously rehearse death rituals, believing that only in death will they gain ultimate freedom.

Festival Buzz & Global Acclaim

The movie has already been featured in industry hype, and world rights to sales were acquired by Alief. Alief co-partner Miguel Angel Govea commended Glorious Summer as being reminiscent of old-fashioned midnight movies with a retro-futuristic appeal. Brett Walker, president at Alief, highlighted the strength in the film’s themes and its bold storytelling style.

A Must-Watch at SXSW

As Glorious Summer marks its International Women’s Day release, it is a cinematic statement of independence and resistance. Audiences can expect a visually breathtaking, emotionally searing experience that will linger long after the credits roll.
